Olympus reflected-light microscope component removed from an Olympus BX61TRF microscope system.

This is the complete AS aperture iris diaphragm / aperture-stop assembly, including the iris diaphragm mechanism, actuator rod, housing and front AS control plate shown in the photographs.

The aperture stop controls the illumination aperture in the reflected-light optical path. Olympus explains that the aperture stop is used to control illumination numerical aperture and image contrast; in reflected-light observation, reducing the aperture can improve contrast and reduce flare.

Removed from an Olympus BX61TRF microscope system that was working before dismantling.

The iris blades are present and the photographs clearly show the aperture in both open and stopped-down positions. There are normal cosmetic signs of previous laboratory use.

The component has not been independently installed back into a BX-RFA/BX-RFAA illuminator and optically centered after removal.
